After Dark at Majori Manor

The hours the estate keeps for itself

In the evening the estate does not close so much as turn inward.

The Evening

The estate, quietened

When the last of dinner has been cleared the estate does not close so much as quieten. The doors are the same doors. There are simply fewer people behind them and less reason to be anywhere in particular.

The light comes down and the colour goes deeper with it. Rooms that were green all afternoon are something closer to red by the end of the night, and it is the same house.

Conversation runs at the pace of the room rather than at the pace of an evening that has somewhere to be.

Cigar & Whisky

The quieter side of Majori Manor

Dark wood and leather, crystal and brass, and the light kept low. It is the quietest room the estate has, and it is built to be sat in for a long time.

There is nothing to announce about it, which is most of the recommendation.

The Evenings

By invitation

Private dinners. Members' evenings. Evenings that happen because somebody was asked.

None of it is on a calendar, and none of it is arranged in advance of the people it is for.

Some evenings are not events.
